DANCE THERAPY TRAINING at 92Y HARKNESS DANCE CENTER

The Dance Therapy Program at the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center provides courses for the DTR Alternate Route Training, CEUs for current dance therapists, and introductory courses for professionals from other disciplines. The focus is on the roots of dance therapy in dance, the language of movement as experience and expression, and clarity in approach to methods. Special offerings focus on children and clients with disabilities. Courses meet the guidelines of the American Dance Therapy Association for alternate route training and academic credit may be earned through Empire State College. Summer 2009 Intensive Workshop

DANCE AS THERAPY

Focus on non-verbal expression and communication through movement. Cover cultural, social and gender differences in movement patterns, how to look at dance in a systematic manner and the psychotherapeutic processes inherent in dance therapy. Undergraduate and graduate academic credit is available through Empire State College; this course meets the guidelines for alternate route training of the American Dance Therapy Association. Summer 2009 Movement Class at 92Y Harkness Dance Center

DANCE THERAPY & EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE WITH MOVEMENT DISORDERS

Increase mobility and flexibility through simple creative movement, non-strenuous dance exercise and relaxation techniques. Class is tailored to the needs of the participants, including exercises for students with Parkinson’s, stroke, multiple sclerosis and other movement disorders. All ages and stages welcome.
